I could watch HGTV all day long! Today’s blog post is all about brand photography ideas for Interior Designers. Plus, a lot of these tips can also apply to home organization experts, design consultants, decorators or anyone who has a home design/decor focused brand.
When it comes to content, many interior designers use photos of their completed projects to promote their work. However, brand photos that showcase your unique personal brand are important to your marketing strategy too. Your collection of brand photos will help you show up consistently across all of your marketing channels–online and offline!
Locations
Start by considering a well curated space. This can be a studio, one of your in-progress projects, or even your home office if you feel that it represents your brand well. Location is important for any session, but interior designers have a unique opportunity to take photos in a setting that reflects the type of work they produce. Not only are you building consistency in your brand, but you’re also giving clients a better idea of your overall style.
Ideas: Pick a space that aligns with your brand colors and style
Outfits
A great outfit will help your photos feel personal to you. Think of how you want to present yourself to your clients. Then, focus on pieces that will help showcase that style. Do you want to relate to a laidback audience? Are you focused on commercial interior design clients? Maybe you’re branded as a luxury interior designer and you need high-end headshots? Based on your location, consider outfits that showcase your personality and connect to your brand’s tone.
Ideas: consider one polished, dressy outfit and one outfit that you’d likely wear to a client meeting
Prop Ideas
The options are unlimited! To start, you can always feature some key tools you use in your process. If you have access to a space you’re currently working on or a completed project, part of your session can be spent professionally capturing some of those elements.
Ideas: your design book, swatches and design sketches, printed photos of spaces that inspire you
Activities
Lastly, we have to put all of those props into action! Focusing on key activities during your session will bring a storyline to your images and make them easier to use in your marketing plan. Activities that interior designers can highlight during a brand session include behind the scenes of designing sketches, client meetings, team meetings about projects, or reviewing progress on a space.
Ideas: Focus on how you can put your behind the scenes work into photo concepts that give your clients an inside look at your overall process.
