In my opinion, food bloggers have the coolest job! Today’s blog post is all about how food bloggers and food photographers can craft the perfect branding session. Additionally, a lot of these tips can also apply to health coaches, personal trainers, or anyone who has a health + wellness focused brand.
When it comes to content, many food bloggers and food photographers use curated imagery of food to promote their work. However, brand photos that showcase your unique personal brand are incredibly important to your marketing strategy too. Your collection of brand photos will help your audience connect with you on a personal level, resulting in better online engagement and more traffic to your blog!
Locations
Start by considering a kitchen space or your home office. Additionally, pick a space that aligns with your brand. For example, if you use dark backdrops and contrast when you photograph your recipe content, a location with darker colors or a moody vibe will match the regular content that you put out.
Ideas: a kitchen space, your home office, locations that inspire your recipes
Outfits
A great outfit will help your photos feel personal to you. Think of how you want to present yourself to your clients and focus on pieces that will help showcase that style. Do you want to relate to a more laidback audience? Maybe you’re branded as a gourmet food blogger and you need high-end headshots? Based on your location, consider outfits that showcase your personality and connect to your brand’s tone.
Ideas: include your favorite apron or work from home loungewear
Prop Ideas
The options are unlimited! For starters, you can always feature one of the many recipes on your blog. Start by considering your signature recipe or food item. Below, you’ll see some images from Kyleigh’s brand session in Richmond, Virginia. She has a ton of brown butter recipes on her website, so we featured brown butter cupcakes in her session (and yes, they were delicious).
Ideas: your favorite cookbook, your signature recipe, kitchen utensils, photography workspace props
Activities
Lastly, we have to put all of those props into action! Focusing on key activities during your session will bring a storyline to your images and ultimately help you craft brand images that give an inside look into the ways your business is unique.
Ideas: cooking in the kitchen, behind the scenes of preparing a blog post

She was so easy and calming to work with, as it was my first branding session. She led me throughout the way and the images are perfect! “
"I am certain that because Jontell got to know me and my brand up front, it allowed her to capture exactly what I wanted.
