Welcome to the Jontell Vanessa Photography blog!

Feeling stuck while you plan outfits for your next brand session? We all know that picking the perfect outfit can be a little daunting and there’s a lot of pressure to get it right when you’re investing in brand photos that represent your business. But I promise, it doesn’t have to be complicated at all.

Top tips for finding the perfect look:
1) Use your closest!
If you’re anything like me, you’re probably tempted to buy a few new outfits any time a special occasion pops up. Before you hit up Nordstrom, look through your closet for your favorite pieces. Once you piece outfits together from your current closet, you can consider purchasing any additional accents you may need. This will help your images feel more authentic while also saving you time & money!

2) Keep your colors simple.
Incorporate your brand colors, but also wear colors that are neutral. Then, you’ll have images that you can use over a longer period of time while also keeping your photos aligned with your overall visual brand. Also, be mindful of where you’ll be using your images. As an example, take a look at my website. There’s are purple accents on my website, so I tend to choose outfits with taupe, black, or white for my website photos because they complement the overall design and brand colors.

3) Be comfortable!
It is incredibly important that you feel comfortable in the outfit you’re wearing for your session. This will help you feel more relaxed and it will translate beautifully on camera. I’m going to say it – ditch the jeans that feel too tight and purchase a pair that you truly feel comfortable wearing. We all need a great pair of jeans! Most importantly, when you feel confident during your session, you will SEE that confidence in your final images.

4) Work with a professional stylist!
This blog post is meant to help give you some inspiration for outfits, but it doesn’t come close to the value and unique experience you receive when working with a professional stylist. I highly recommend connecting with a stylist to help you create the perfect look for your brand. This is why all of my clients receive a guide that features some of my favorite stylists in the area!

Outfit Inspiration:

For the casual and cozy look:

Melissa’s all black look created the perfect “cozy at home” look. Also, I loved Manali’s cozy sweater with thigh high boots for her winter brand shoot!

For the modern professional look:

Blazers are the perfect way to quickly create a professional look. I loved that Tamara and Courtney used their blazers to bring in a pop of color. Sarah’s blazer and jean look truly says “modern entrepreneur.”

For the chic & stylish look:

This is probably my favorite type of look for brand shoots because it’s easy and sophisticated. You’ll see how Nilsa brought in some additional props to accent her outfit and reflect her complete visual brand. Dawn’s outfit brings in a pattern that is fun and professional. Lastly, Michelle & Aqura’s outfits are simple with texture and a pop of color.

A behind the scenes look:
Another great option is to create a look that showcases the work you do to create your product/service. Whether you’re baking in the kitchen or creating gorgeous wood signs for people to display in their homes, your outfit can be centered around showcasing how you create.

This is just the beginning of a long list of options! I love working with my branding clients to find the best outfits for their session. Ready to get your session on the calendar? Send me a message!

She was so easy and calming to work with, as it was my first branding session. She led me throughout the way and the images are perfect! “

"I am certain that because Jontell got to know me and my brand up front, it allowed her to capture exactly what I wanted.
