What if I told you that you can plan an engagement session during any season and it will look beautiful, dreamy, and romantic?

Well, with the recent summer heat wave in Virginia, I’ve had a few couples asking about the BEST season for their engagement session. Everyone loves Fall colors and Spring temperatures. However, you can really make any season work with the right outfit and perfect timing.

Summer

Summer is definitely hot, but the days are longer and there is more flexibility for scheduling your shoot. If you pick an engagement shoot during this season, we’ll either shoot early in the morning or late in the evening to ensure that we’re out during some of the coolest temperatures of the day. My top tip is to set your hair and makeup well, and pick clothing options that are lightweight.

Fall

The most popular time of year. And my personal favorite! Nothing tops those beautiful Autumn colors, especially in Virginia. The best part of Fall is that you get to break out the boots, scarves, and flannels for your engagement session. Below you’ll see that Timara picked a classic blue bell sleeve dress for her formal outfit and then something warmer for her casual outfit. Winter

If I’m being honest, I actually LOVE winter engagement sessions. They’re rare because no one wants to freeze, but winter light is beautiful and you can always come up with some stylish, cozy outfits. Bailey chose a long maxi and a thick faux fur wrap to accent her outfit (and keep her warm). Spring

After enduring cold winters, everyone loves putting on their fun spring clothing for some new photos. I love spring engagement sessions because you don’t have to worry about dressing for extreme cold or extreme heat. Throw on your favorite sun dress or maxi dress and a pair of cute heels for a fun, simple, seasonal look. Just remember to take some allergy meds before your session!
