Welcome to the Jontell Vanessa Photography blog!

You finally get to see the Fall Sweethearts & Sweets shoot on the blog today. If you follow along on Facebook or Instagram, you’ve probably already seen some of these images featured over on Cake & Lace. I wanted to give you some of the behind the scenes information of how this gorgeous shoot came together.

October is probably one of the busiest months for photographers and for some reason, Manali and I decided to execute a styled shoot at the end of the month. It took a few planning sessions, several emails, and a A LOT of text messages to one another, but we managed to pull it off. Luckily, everything came together beautifully and we are both really happy with the outcome.

How did we decide on a joint shoot?

It all started with a simple, random “have you ever considered doing a joint styled shoot” message and came together from there. I think it only took us a few seconds to settle on a Fall shoot and then it was full speed ahead with ideas, Pinterest boards, and contacting some of our favorite vendors.

How did we come up with the Sweethearts and Sweets theme?

Honestly, it’s probably buried in our hundreds of text messages, but it stemmed somewhere from Manali really wanting to incorporate Apple cider donuts (which sadly ended up not making the cut) and the two of us wanting to find a cute theme that fit our overall fall inspired vision for the shoot.

What exactly is a styled shoot?

Okay, I know I have friends who aren’t in the industry that read my blog (I appreciate the support, y’all!) This is a question I got a lot whenever I mentioned the shoot during our planning process. A styled shoot – in simple terms – is like planning a wedding, but no one actually gets married. All of the creativity and stress is still there. Thankfully, everyone involved ends up with some beautiful images at the end of it all.

What made you pick DelFosse Vineyards outside of Charlottesville, VA?

We knew that we wanted mountain views which led us to being in or near Charlottesville. The dealbreaker was the excitement and support that DelFosse showed us when we emailed them. They were so helpful and excited to work with us, we knew it would be a perfect match. Even on the day of our shoot, their staff members were so nice and helped us with a few last minute things that we needed to pull together.

Is that a real couple?

Yes!!! Dustin and Marla are fellow photographers and they are the sweetest! We really appreciated them taking the time to be our models for the day! They’re getting married later this year and I can just tell that their wedding images are going to be stunning.

What was the best part of the shoot?

We got to work with some amazing vendors – and I’m not saying that lightly. This shoot wouldn’t have happened if it weren’t for some really talented people taking our vision and turning it into a reality. I’ve linked all of them below and you definitely need to check them out.

Where can I see all of the images?

You can scroll down to see some of the images that I captured from the shoot. Both mine and Manali’s images are featured over on on the Cake & Lace blog.

She was so easy and calming to work with, as it was my first branding session. She led me throughout the way and the images are perfect! “

"I am certain that because Jontell got to know me and my brand up front, it allowed her to capture exactly what I wanted.
