2016 Year In Review

Major Life Lessons Learned in 2016:

  1. Always make sure you check that you have your keys BEFORE you close all of your car doors…especially if it’s a wedding day.
  2. Trends come and go but sprinkled donuts will never go out of style.
  3. In the words of Caroline Logan, “Live by your commitments, not your feelings.”
  4. Prayer = peace.
  5.  Love people well, despite any and all circumstances.

There’s a lot that I could say about 2016…but we’d be here all day. As I looked back on the year, one thing kept popping into my head to really sum things up. It’s the drive home that I take after a wedding day. This year, there were over a dozen of them. Some long, some short. On those drives, I always realized that despite the crazy things that may have happened over the past 8 hours – 100 degree heat, unexpected rain, key mishaps, wardrobe malfunctions, backaches and tired feet – I’ve never driven away from a wedding unhappy.  Whether it’s remembering the genuine joy of the bride and the groom, dad’s tears as he gave his daughter away, guests who really know how to get the party started – I never for a single moment wanted to take any of it back. I had the chance to meet new people and tell their stories. I had the chance to meet new friends in my industry as we share our lives over a vendor meal. With every drive, I found something to smile about; I found something that made want to do everything all over again week after week.  I never wished that I had spent the day anywhere else, with anyone else, doing anything other than photographing these special moments. 2016 taught me that I truly enjoy this art. What started as a hobby several years ago, has turned into a passion for capturing life…the moments that take our breath away, the moments we want to stay in forever, the moments that are once in a lifetime.  2016 gave me the chance to discover that passion and run towards it at full speed.

With all of my heart, I say thank you to the friends and clients who made 2016 so special for me and this business. Thank you for supporting me and thank you for letting me tell your stories.

Here are some of my favorite images from 2016. Some of the images were second shot while shooting with Rebecca Wilcher Photography, Kimberly Florence Photography, or Jordan Quinn Photography.
